Hello Everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to look at these amazing pups. I just wanted to put a few thoughts down before I call it a night.
I've had many great conversations with people about why I chose to breed a Chocolate Pointing Lab and a Brittany. I am sure many people have searched online for the Labany breed, and just found a couple of not so attractive pictures (in my opinion) and a few not so descriptive or vague descriptions of the breed followed by some negative comments claiming that purebreds are being used the wrong way.
Just the other day I watched a show about dogs, how they evolved with man, how quickly they change and how people all across the world breed dogs for certain traits. No I am not trying to create some super breed, or a new breed destined for the AKC. What I did do, is breed two exceptional hunting dogs that have hunted together for years, and as I have said before - one complimenting the other.
I plan on keeping one of these pups, who I will love and treat as a family member (and also gain another awesome hunting companion). I can't wait to get out and go hiking with my Brittany dog and Labany pup this Fall, shoot the first grouse of the season, or watch my pup point a wild pheasant for the first time. And yes, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas just thinking about the first water retrieve of a duck or goose. With all that said, realistically the majority of time my dog will be home, waiting for my kids to come home from school or me from work in hopes of playing fetch for hours with some slimy tennis ball. I hope while my pup is waiting for us to come home it will watch over my house, occasionally giving the unrecognized passer by a woof or two and patrolling the yard, keeping the city deer out of my garden and fruit trees. What I hope to get is a great dog.
When I sit and watch these pups I try and find one that excels over the others, or has better motor coordination, sniffs the pheasant wing a bit longer or is super calm when I hold them, but they all fit that mold. Some days I think that the last dog left will be the one I pick.
I will be sad to see them go to their new homes and excited at the same time because there will be only one pup to feed and clean up after. In all seriousness, if any of you are thinking of getting one of these pups just know you won't win the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in hunting breeds, but you will hopefully get a great family member and an incredible hunting companion.
(I think it's time to wrap things up! I must be getting tired because this blog is getting kind of sappy and emotional). As you can see writing is not my forte, so if you have read this far, thanks! I almost didn't start blogging after I had read an article that stated "if you can't write good, you wont have success". That's fine I thought, that's why I'll take a ton pictures!!
Good night.
Well said.
